Spay
At the heart of our mission lies a deep commitment to animal welfare, and one of the most effective ways to ensure the well-being of our beloved animal companions is through spaying and neutering. As a cornerstone of the Humane Society's efforts, we recognize the profound impact that these procedures have on reducing pet
overpopulation, alleviating strain on animal shelters, and ultimately improving the quality of life for both pets and their human caregivers. Through generous donations, we are able to extend vital spay and neuter services to qualifying pet owners.
The Humane Society of Harrison County is accepting applications for spay/neuter assistance. Please download the application. Upon approval the Humane Society will pay for the spay or neuter of your pet!

Benefits of Spaying and Neutering Your Pet
General Benefits
Promotes Responsible Pet Ownership
Spaying and neutering contribute to responsible pet ownership by preventing overpopulation and reducing the number of animals in shelters.
Improves Overall Health
In addition to preventing certain cancers, spaying and neutering can contribute to a longer and healthier life for pets.
Supports Community Well-being
Controlling the pet population through spaying and neutering helps reduce the number of stray and homeless animals in the community.
Cost Effective
The cost of your pet's spay/neuter surgery is far less than the cost of having and caring for a litter.
Benefits of Spaying (for females)
Prevents Unwanted Pregnancies
Spaying eliminates the risk of unwanted pregnancies and the challenges associated with caring for unplanned litters.
Reduces the Risk of Uterine Infections
Spaying greatly reduces the risk of uterine infections and certain cancers in female pets.
Prevents Heat Cycles
Spayed females won't go into heat, which can eliminate behaviors like yowling, pacing, and attracting male attention.
Promotes Long-Term Health
Spaying before the first heat cycle has been shown to offer the greatest health benefits for female pets.
Benefits of Neutering (for males)
Controls Unwanted Behaviors
Neutering can help control behaviors such as roaming, marking territory with urine, and aggression.
Reduces the Risk of Testicular Cancer
Neutering eliminates the risk of testicular cancer and reduces the risk of prostate problems in male pets.
Decreases Aggressive Tendencies
Neutering can reduce aggressive tendencies in male animals, making them more social and less prone to fighting.
Curbs Roaming Instincts
Neutered males are less likely to roam in search of a mate, reducing the risk of accidents and injuries.
It's essential to consult with a veterinarian to determine the most appropriate timing for spaying or neutering based on the individual needs and health of each pet.
